Fact vs. Opinion

Fact: The Odds are Against Us.

Opinion: It's Just Too Hard.

It's an unfortunate reality of show biz that there are far more qualified actors out there than available roles for them to fill. It's been this way since the old days, time immemorial. This is how it’s been since the silent film era. This is not likely to change anytime soon.

Nevertheless, if you've decided that acting is your passion, your destiny, and your life's work, the odds won't matter to you. I've known plenty of actors who have enjoyed great longevity in the entertainment industry. One thing they all have in common is that they never quit. They always kept going. They kept plugging along. They pursued their dreams and honed their skills just as diligently when struggling through the lean years as they did while savoring their glory days. Acting is not just what they do. It's who they are. It's a part of their DNA.

An actor acts. Always. It's who we are. Not everyone close to you will understand that. And you may encounter some real pushback from those closest to you when embarking upon this path. That challenge becomes part of our journey, as well. The journey of an artist is often a solitary one. This is part of the actor's process. It’s been this way for many years. It goes with the territory, ladies and gentlemen. The actor’s journey often takes us through some pretty rocky terrain.
