The Fictitious Half-Way Point …

Welcome to July. This is the month we’re reminded … our year is half over. Some people – who may or may not have your best interests at heart – will even ask how much progress you’ve made towards your 2018 goals.

Don’t worry about what month it is. Don’t worry about what year it is, either. Just remember what day it is. It’s officially today. All day long. You have twenty-four perfect hours to work with today. Those are the same twenty-four hours Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Oprah Winfrey, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, Sofia Vergara and every other overachiever in the entertainment industry has to work with.

Focus on doing something productive today towards the realization of your entertainment industry goals and dreams. Write out a list of goals you’d like to achieve in the performing arts. Tony Robbins says a goal is a dream with a deadline.

Every day arrives with a new deadline. Make a habit of meeting those deadlines you set for yourself each day. Rehearse a new scene with another acting student, memorize one new monologue, submit yourself for a play, film, or television show, take a casting director workshop, practice your audition technique, re-write your bio, update your social media profiles, visit a new acting class, research and plan your next headshot photo session.

Do something. The point is that even the smallest step forward still moves you forward. Work on one new thing each day. Those small steps add up over time.

And when someone – with good or bad intentions – reminds you 2018 is now half over ... just remember that July is simply one more month throughout which you can apply yourself diligently.

Never mind what month it is. Maintain a daily discipline of proactive, productive work habits that move you steadily forward. Start small. Grow big. Focus on the individual days and those pesky months will take care of themselves.
